CAMO: Beauty

November 16, 2014, 8:00 am

Romans 12:1-2(NLT) 1And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

1 Timothy 2:8-10(TLB) 8So I want men everywhere to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from sin and anger and resentment. 9-10And the women should be the same way, quiet and sensible in manner and clothing. Christian women should be noticed for being kind and good, not for the way they fix their hair or because of their jewels or fancy clothes.

1 Peter 3:3-4(NLT) 3Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. 4You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

Matthew 6:1(NASB) 1“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

Here are Three Questions to Help us with Regards to Adornment:

1. Is it Moderate or Modest?
a. Is it enough in terms of covering? Cultural immodesty has clearly contributed to the increase of sexual immorality.
b. Is it too much in terms of drawing attention?
2. Is it Appropriate?
a. Some things may be lawful but improper because of where you are and what you are doing.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24(NLT)
23You say, “I am allowed to do anything”£—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial. 24Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.

3. Does it Have Evil Associations?

1 Thessalonians 5:22(KJV) 22Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Hebrews 12:14(NIV) 14Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

CAMO: Money

November 9, 2014, 8:30 am

Message One: Money

Deuteronomy 28:15-20(TMSG) 15Here’s what will happen if you don’t obediently listen to the Voice of God, your God, and diligently keep all the commandments and guidelines that I’m commanding you today. All these curses will come down hard on you: 16God’s curse in the city, God’s curse in the country; 17God’s curse on your basket and bread bowl; 18God’s curse on your children, the crops of your land, the young of your livestock, the calves of your herds, the lambs of your flocks. 19God’s curse in your coming in, God’s curse in your going out. 20God will send The Curse, The Confusion, The Contrariness down on everything you try to do until you’ve been destroyed and there’s nothing left of you—all because of your evil pursuits that led you to abandon me.

Prosperity for a child of God is having enough to accomplish God’s purposes for our lives.

Deuteronomy 8:18(NIV) 18But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…

3 John 1:2(NASB) 2Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

Principles That Will Change Our View of Money:

1. We Must Believe that it’s God’s Will for Us to Prosper

Joshua 1:8(NASB) 8“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

Proverbs 22:4(NASB) 4The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, honor and life.

Proverbs 3:9-10(NASB) 9Honor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; 10So your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine.

People with money or without money can have a poverty mindset. If you’re unsure, answer these statements with a “yes” or “no” to help you identify whether or not you have it.
I am quick to justify or make excuses for my financial situation
I govern my finances out of fear. I’m afraid that if I tithe or give, I won’t have enough money left over
I don’t recognize God as my Source
I am critical of those who preach about money
I am suspicious of wealthy Christians
I often wonder, “Does the Church need my money?…as though it was mine

2. God Owns All the Wealth in the World

Matthew 25:14(NLT) 14“…the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone.

There are Two Radical Implications in this Scripture:
1) It’s God’s money and He has a right to whatever He wants, whenever He wants
2) Since all the money is God’s money, every spending decision is a spiritual decision.

3. All of God’s Wealth Also Belongs to His Children

Psalms 37:25(TLB) 25I have been young and now I am old. And in all my years I have never seen the Lord forsake a man who loves him; nor have I seen the children of the godly go hungry.

Romans 8:16-17(NLT) 16For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

2 Corinthians 8:9(NASB) 9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.

The Romans tried to give Him myrrh…NOT as an act of mercy because myrrh was a medicine that reduced the pain which would have extended His life, but Jesus refused it.

He was naked. Artist paint Him with a loincloth, but He did NOT have one. He had the wealth of all His creation, but at the cross He laid it down briefly to become nothing so we could have everything.

He was buried in a borrowed grave. But when He cried: “It Is Finished, sin died and we were forgiven.

When He cried: It Is Finished, sickness died and we were healed.
When He cried: It Is Finished, poverty died, and we inherited the riches of Abraham.

4. The Difference Between Living a Life of Prosperity and a Life of Poverty is Choice

Deuteronomy 30:19(TMSG) 19I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live.

Luke 6:38(NLT) 38Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

Malachi 3:6-10(TMSG) 6“I am God—yes, I Am. I haven’t changed. And because I haven’t changed, you, the descendants of Jacob, haven’t been destroyed. 7You have a long history of ignoring my commands. You haven’t done a thing I’ve told you. Return to me so I can return to you,” says God-of-the-Angel-Armies. “You ask, ‘But how do we return?’ 8“Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me day after day. “You ask, ‘How have we robbed you?’ “The tithe and the offering—that’s how! 9And now you’re under a curse—the whole lot of you—because you’re robbing me. 10Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me in this and see if I don’t open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams.

Proverbs 13:4(NLT) 4Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.

Romans: Can We Hear?

November 5, 2014, 6:07 pm

Can We Hear?
Romans 10:14-21

The Process of Grace

Romans 10:14-15(NASB) 14How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”

Hebrews 11:6(NASB) 6And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

The Proclamation of the Gospel

Romans 10:16-20(NASB) 16However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. 18But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have; “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.” 19But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation, By a nation without understanding will I anger you.” 20And Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who did not seek Me, I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”

Psalms 19:1-4(TLB) 1The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvelous display of his craftsmanship. 2Day and night they keep on telling about God. 3-4Without a sound or word, silent in the skies, their message reaches out to all the world. The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it.

Romans 1:19-20(NASB) 19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

The Patience of God

Romans 10:21(NASB) 21But as for Israel He says, “All the day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”

James 3:9-12, NIV
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

James 3:2-12, NIV
2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.

Luke 6:45 (NIV)
45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

I Kings 19:1-3a (NIV)
19 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.” 3 Elijah was afraid[a] and ran for his life.

1 Samuel 30:6 (NIV)
6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God [KJV: But David encouraged himself in the Lord.].

Deuteronomy 28:3-14 NIV
3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. 4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. 6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. 7 The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. 8 The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. 9 The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. 11 The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. 12 The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. 14 Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.

Romans: Who’s Calling?

October 29, 2014, 6:00 pm

Who’s Calling?
Romans 10:1-13

The Way Of Righteousness

Romans 10:1-4(NASB) 1Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. 2For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. 3For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

The Way Of Relationship

Romans 10:5(NASB) 5For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness.

Romans 10:6-7(NASB) 6But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), 7or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”

Romans 10:8-9(NASB) 8But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Romans 10:10-11(NASB)
10for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

Romans 10:12-13(NASB) 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Versus: Holy vs. Holy

October 26, 2014, 9:00 am

Holy VS Holy

Isaiah 35:8(NIV) 8And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it.

John 1:12(NASB) 12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

Acts 2:38(NASB) 38Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

1 Peter 1:13-16(NLT) 13So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

Hebrews 12:14(NLT) 14Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.

Romans 13:14(NASB) 14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

Galatians 5:13(NLT) 13For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature…

Romans: God’s Choice

October 22, 2014, 6:38 pm

God’s Choice
Romans 9:6-33

Grasping God’s Rights

Romans 9:6a(NASB) 6But it is not as though the word of God has failed.

Romans 9:6-9(NASB) 6But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; 7nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but: “through Isaac your descendants will be named.” 8That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants. 9For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Romans 9:10-13(NASB) 10And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; 11for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls, 12it was said to her, “The older will serve the younger.” 13Just as it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

Romans 9:14-16(NASB) 14What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! 15For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy.

Romans 9:17-18(NASB) 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.” 18So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.

Romans 9:19(NASB) 19You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?”

Romans 9:20-23(NASB) 20On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it? 21Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? 22What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? 23And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory,

Grasping God’s Grace

Romans 9:30-32a(NASB)
30What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith; 31but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. 32Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works.

Romans 9:32b-33(NASB) 32bThey stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33just as it is written, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

Versus: Truth vs. Whatever

October 19, 2014, 9:00 am

Truth VS Whatever

Matthew 7:13-14(NLT) 13“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

John 14:1-6(NASB) 1“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4“And you know the way where I am going.” 5Thomas said* to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6Jesus said* to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Philippians 4:8-9(TLB) 8And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing: Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about. 9Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you.

Matthew 18:8(TLB) 8So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. Better to enter heaven crippled than to be in hell with both of your hands and feet.

Romans 13:11-14(NLT) 11…for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. 13Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. 14Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.

Things to Respect as We Choose the Narrow Way:

1. Respect Being God’s Son or Daughter
2. Respect Singleness
3. Respect Motherhood
4. Respect Fatherhood
5. Respect Manhood and Womanhood

Versus: Red vs. Blue

Red VS Blue

Matthew 7:13-14(NLT)
13“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

What is Liberalism?
Today, Universities teach that liberalism is enlightenment, tolerance and progress. It emphasizes freedom, equality, and opportunity.

2 Corinthians 3:17(NASB)
…and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

But we must remember that the liberty of God is always in tandem with truth and grace. This means that we must never trample over moral truth in pursuit of liberty.

John 1:16-17(ICB)
16The Word was full of grace and truth. From him we all received more and more blessings. 17The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

What is Conservatism?
Conservatism also stresses personal freedom but with the important addition of personal responsibility.

Unless conservatism is tempered and balanced with mercy and benevolence, it tends to gravitate into a dictatorial system in which dictatorial leaders delight in restricting behavior and can end up enjoying their dominance and control.

John 1:16-17(ICB)
16The Word was full of grace and truth. From him we all received more and more blessings. 17The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

What is True Liberty?
True Liberty contains quantities of both freedom and responsibility. Imbalance leaves us in the ditch and far away from authentic liberty that embraces grace and truth.

The three fundamental truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ are:
1. Repentance of Sin
2. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (in particular, His atonement on the cross)
3. The Continual grace of God in our lives

Romans: Is Jesus Really God?

October 8, 2014, 7:56 pm

Is Jesus Really God?
Romans 9:5 (NASB)

Romans 9:5(NASB)
whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

What Do People Say?

What Does God Say?

Romans 9:5(NLT)
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are their ancestors, and Christ himself was an Israelite as far as his human nature is concerned. And he is God, the one who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

Mark 14:61-64(TLB)
61To this Jesus made no reply. Then the high priest asked him. “Are you the Messiah, the Son of God?” 62Jesus said, “I am, and you will see me sitting at the right hand of God, and returning to earth in the clouds of heaven.” 63-64Then the high priest tore at his clothes and said, “What more do we need? Why wait for witnesses? You have heard his blasphemy. What is your verdict?” And the vote for the death sentence was unanimous.

John 10:31-38(NASB)
31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. 32Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.” 34Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? 35“If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37“If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.”

John 14:6(NASB)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
